At 85, Indian-born artist Dr Anjini Prakash Laitu, affectionately known as the “Colourman of Dubai”, is challenging conventional notions of retirement. The octogenarian continues to paint, exhibit and experiment. For him, art is less about seeking inspiration than about the sheer pleasure of working with colour.
This question acquires fresh relevance as Amitav Ghosh entrusts an unpublished manuscript, Letter to My Grandson, to Norway’s Future Library, a literary project whose contributors’ works will remain unread until 2114. Submitted on 28 June 2026, the manuscript offers a timely reason to revisit Ghosh’s The Glass Palace, published in 2000. Spanning generations and geographies, the historical novel explores empire, exile, family, freedom and belonging, asking how the choices of one generation shape the lives of another.
